Guide to the RI Accent
One of the notable things about our state is the distinctive Rhode Island accent. If you want to consider some of the linguistic rules to local pronunciation check out this brief Guide to Understanding and Speaking Rhode Island English, published by the Providence Public Library in 1982 with support from the RI Council on the Humanities. The author, Elaine Chaika, was a noted linguist, long time Providence resident, and the first woman to achieve the rank of professor at Providence College.
