Welcome to Tynie Town
Did you know that Ward 2 was home to Tynie Town? In 1920 the Tynietoy Furniture Company was started in Providence by Marion Perkins and Amey Vernon. In the company's earliest years the women made the furniture at the Handicraft Club and hired RISD students to help paint it. The company grew, designing dollhouses and furniture reflecting New England design, and occupied space where the RISD Auditorium now stands. The miniatures are sought after by collectors and are included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Handicraft Club has embarked on the restoration of an original Tynietoy dollhouse to honor this history. You can learn more about the specific house and see detail that evokes many East Side homes on Susan Milmore's web site.
