Congdon Street Baptist Church
The Congdon Street Baptist Church was established in 1819 with a gift of land from Moses Brown for use as a school and meeting house. That original structure, just a little north of the current building, was the first school for black children in Providence, and its destruction was attributed to racial discrimination. The current building was built in 1874, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more detail and information about the current congregation, visit their web site.
