Helen Anthony, a Connecticut native, moved to the Paterson Park neighborhood on the East Side six years ago. She practices law at Handy Law, LLC, focusing primarily on land use. Prior to her election to the Providence City Council, she served on the City of Providence Zoning Board of Appeals; volunteered on the hot line at the Crossroads Domestic Violence Shelter and provided free legal advice at the legal clinic for the homeless at the Mathewson Street Church. Helen is an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and is a Governor at the Miriam Hospital.
Prior to moving to Providence, Helen resided in Columbia, Missouri for ten years where she served on the Planning and Zoning Commission then was elected to the City Council. While in Missouri, Helen served on the Board of Planned Parenthood of Mid Missouri and Kansas. She worked on political campaigns to elect progressive women to national, state and local office.
In Needham, Massachusetts where Helen lived before moving to Missouri, she was an elected member of Town Council and a Trustee of the Beth-Israel Deaconess Glover Hospital. She was a partner at the law firm Jursek Dennis and Gagnon, LLP, specializing in residential real estate.
Helen is married to Doug Anthony, MD, PhD, Chief of Pathology at Rhode Island and The Miriam Hospitals. They have four children, James Anthony, Kevin Jursek, Chris Jursek and Laura Jursek. Helen graduated from Colby College in 1982 and received her law degree from New England School of Law in 1988.
